ASU Football

I got to go to an ASU Football game and shot with my teacher and a few other students. This is the game on October 3, 2009 against Oregon
State. We lost though. I was surprised Some crazy ASU Fansat how many
good pictures I took and that I actually liked it. I did use my 18-55mm F3.5 kit lens. I used a 72-200mm, a 300mm and 400mm F2.8 camera.

So I got a new Canon Digital SLR Rebel XSi and it is very awesome. These were some photos I took with it. The lenses may be different. The camera came with a kit lens (18-55mm at F3.5) Other lenses I use are 72-200mm at F3.5 and an F2.8 lens.

The first time I went to Las Vegas was back in June of 2002 with my mom and dad. I loved it and they liked it as well, despite walking up and down the strip in 110 degree weather. We went back in February of 2006 when it was pretty cool. We had to wear jackets and I bought a pretty good quality coat from a vender at Freemont Street. I thought that the second trip was way more fun because, well, I was 12 when we went in 2002 and so in 2006 I was 16. So I was in high school and I grew up a little and got way better at taking photos. I also saw things differently. We also got to go to Hoover Dam.

It was very sad to leave El Chaupi. When we were boarding the bus, everyone was crying and the children cried and all the family of the Hostal was crying as well. I will miss everyone from that town and I will never forget those children. It really hit me deep down inside because I used to be one of those children in a town probably very similar to this one. This trip was very important for me and pretty emotional. I thought it was a great experience. Most of my family was of course against it because they though it was wasteful.

For the last two weeks, our little group turned into about 35 students ranging in age from 18-26. We met up with the other groups who were doing similar things in other small towns in the Northern part of the country. Not everyone came on the adventure tour. That was also a sad moment when they left.

The place we stayed at in the middle of the jungle. It wasn't too buggy nor too hot. It was very humid though and there were no showers.

The big chunk of ice we climbed up and over. We were all strapped together on our hands and knees with ice picks up this thing. This is what it looked like when I turned around after climbing it. It was awesome to know that we were the only ones who did this out of ALL the groups in ISV to ever climb this mountain.

Ecuador 2008

In June 27-July 24 of 2008 I went to Ecuador through International Student Volunteers. I went with a group of about 35 college students from around the world, but mainly the U.S. and Canada. For the first two weeks, I was in a small town with about 7 other students. We taught the local children English and helped the elderly with their household chores.

Teaching the children is why I really wanted to go on this trip. It was hard to get photos of the towns people mainly because they didn't really want to be photographed and there is also some religious belief that cameras are bad. I did take some pictures of the children because they loved us being there and didn't care about the cameras. They were the best part of the whole trip. Even after we left the country they were the most memorable part of the whole trip.

The last two weeks we all met up as a big group and toured the country. It sounds nice but it was very intense. We climbed a dormant volcano, I jumped off a bridge and we did hiking in the muddy, humid jungle. The ending was nice when we learned how to surf and we just relaxed in a little surfer town called Montanita.

Overall, the experience was very nice. I learned a lot about Ecuador and I loved seeing the people. The South Americans. One of me. I wish someday I could go back. I would love to go to Argentina or Venezuela one day. My ultimate goal is to return to my birthplace near Bogota, Colombia. For now, though, I am happy seeing other parts of our beautiful earth.
